I was saddened to hear that Professor Tomisaku Kawasaki passed away on the 5th of June 2020. Please accept my deepest condolences. Dr. Kawasaki’s paper entitled “Acute febrile mucocutaneous lymphnode syndrome,” published in 1967, has made resounding worldwide responses with unprecedented great impacts. I remember my first meeting with Dr. & Mrs. Kawasaki in 1974, when they visited Taipei and asked me whether I had seen a case of MCLS, of which the inquiry voices remained in my mind, growing up to this time (Fig. 1).
I have been fortunate, talking, discussing and learning from Professor Kawasaki in many occasions. We wrote also a review article, in Chinese and English, entitled, “Kawasaki Disease: Diagnosis, Treatment and Long-Term Care,” published in a Taiwan periodical ( Kavalan Journal of Medicine 2007; 2:63-69). Under a special arrangement of Professor Kawasaki, I, together with Pfofessors M.H, Wu and J.K. Wang, organized and held “The IX International Kawasaki Disease Symposium,” in Taipei, Grand Hotel, on 10 -12, April 2008 (Figure 2).
Professor Kawasaki’s endeavors never stop. I admire him for his good memory, gentleness and innate ability in pediatrics. Dr. Kawasaki is a great world role model, and will be remembered by all of the physicians and pediatricians in Japan, Taiwan and many parts of the world.
Wishing you all peace,
Sincerely yours,
Hung-Chi Lue, MD, PhD, FACC, FCCP
