Salute to the Master — The Everlasting Memory of Dr. Kawasaki

I am still shocked and in disbelief that Dr. Kawasaki had passed away.
I met Dr. Kawasaki for the first time at the IX International Kawasaki Disease Symposium in Taipei. I remember so well how he kindly chatted with participants at the Parents’ Association Activity session, answered their questions, and inspired the audience. I believe this was a reflection of his belief that “medical care is warm, medical science is strict,” which he always shared with young medical personnel like me.
In 2015, the XI International Kawasaki Disease Symposium was held in Hawaii. I was invited to deliver a talk titled The Implication of Coronary Z-score Progression. Afterward, I had a short discussion with Dr. Kawasaki and Dr. Saji. They both encouraged me to prepare a Mandarin Chinese manual for Taiwanese patients with Kawasaki disease. Within 1 year, I completed the task they recommended. In 2018, the XII International Kawasaki Disease Symposium was held in Yokohama. I went to find Dr. Kawasaki to ask if I could have his signature on the manual. He smiled and answered yes. I was excited, feeling as though I had received the greatest treasure!
Rest in peace, Dr. Kawasaki. I will keep in mind what you shared with us, and I will miss you forever.
